Clarity 4.2: Listening Guide

Clarity 4.2 was developed to explore the full potential of compact loudspeaker design. Built to push the limits of what’s possible, it delivers a natural, effortless musical presentation. Key features include:

  • Ultra-compact full-range system: Despite its ultra-compact size, Clarity 4.2 maintains full dynamics at all volume levels.
  • Purifi Ushindi technology: By utilizing Purifi Ushindi 4” woofers, Clarity 4.2 achieves exceedingly low harmonic and intermodulation distortion levels and a linear bass extension down to 40 Hz.
  • Proprietary AMT Tweeter: Exclusive to the Lyngdorf group, providing effortless high-frequency performance despite a naturally narrow vertical dispersion.
  • Advanced Cabinet Construction: A reinforced and braced cabinet bonded to a 12 mm CNC machined aluminum front baffle results in a structurally rigid construction with minimal resonance.

All of this in an ultra-compact enclosure, making Clarity 4.2 particularly well-suited for smaller rooms (such as metropolitan apartments or intimate listening spaces). Additionally, Clarity 4.2 excels in near-field setups.

Note that Clarity 4.2 has also been engineered to perform best in typical, “Scandinavian”-style living rooms that are not overly dampened. In an acoustically treated room, the speakers might struggle to fill the room with sound. We recommend a placement 10–30 cm (4-12”) from the rear wall in such rooms. Experimenting with placement may help you find the best results for your space.

  • Listening position distance: Given its compact size and driver configuration, Clarity 4.2 works well for both near to far field listening, albeit in small-to-medium sized rooms.
  • Vertical alignment: For the ideal performance, please ensure the tweeter is directed towards ear level.
  • Horizontal alignment: Clarity 4.2 is optimized for on-axis listening, meaning the speakers perform best when pointing towards listening position in typical setups. Depending on your listening environment, you may prefer a slightly different angle. We encourage you to experiment with the speaker angle to find your preferred result.

Clarity 4.2 has a sensitivity of 78 dB (as dictated by Hoffman’s Iron Law). We recommend pairing them with low distortion amplification rated for 100 watts (4 ohm) or above to fully unlock their potential. This recommendation is, however, dependent on setup. Near-field setups and setups in smaller rooms generally do not need as strong of an amplifier to achieve desired output.

Extra tip: Try playing some bass-heavy music that also features a female vocal and turn up the volume a bit. You will find that the woofer moves dramatically, but the female voice remains undistorted—something very few small speakers can achieve. Also note the effortless performance of the proprietary AMT tweeter, exclusive to the Lyngdorf group.
